On Tuesday, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted China’s resolution on “The Contribution of Development to the Enjoyment of All Human Rights” at the 47th session, which highlights the right to development and that the objective of development is to improve the well-being of people.

“As an eternal theme of human society, development is the key to solving all problems. It is only with greater development that human rights can be better promoted and protected,” said Ambassador Chen Xu, permanent representative of China to the United Nations office in Geneva and other organizations in Switzerland, said Monday in a speech during the presentation of the draft resolution.

“Currently, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread around the world, causing severe repercussions on the economy and social development as well as on human rights in all countries. In the face of these serious challenges, we must strengthen solidarity and cooperation, and work together to overcome the pandemic. At the same time, we must vigorously promote sustainable development and, in particular, step up poverty reduction efforts in order to overcome the negative impact of the pandemic on the lives of people in all countries, “Chen said.

The resolution calls on all States to achieve the development of the people, by the people and for the people. It recognizes that the development and realization of human rights and fundamental freedoms are interdependent and mutually reinforcing, and calls on all countries to promote sustainable development in order to promote equal opportunities for development, Chen said. .

Representatives of many countries, including Venezuela, Cuba and Pakistan, also made speeches thanking China for introducing this important draft resolution and stressed that development should be at the center of all countries, especially developing countries. All countries should work together to promote sustainable development, eradicate poverty and inequality, and protect human rights.
