Sahara: Serbia supports Moroccan territorial integrity
Serbia reaffirmed its firm support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara and for its territorial integrity.
The Serbian position of support was expressed by the President of the National Assembly Ivica Dačić during a meeting held Wednesday in Rabat with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
The two officials commended the excellent historical ties between the two countries and stressed the need to intensify political consultations, economic and trade cooperation.
They announced that the Moroccan-Serbian Economic Committee will meet before the end of the year to explore common business opportunities and strengthen partnership in various strategic sectors.
Morocco is “Serbia’s major partner” on the African continent, Bourita underlined, welcoming the role played by the National Assembly, through the Moroccan-Serbian Friendship Group, in strengthening bilateral relations.
For his part, Mr. Ivica Dačić praised Rabat’s firm support for the territorial integrity of Serbia, recalling the role played by his country and Morocco in the establishment of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which will celebrate its 60th birthday next September.
During his visit to Morocco, the Speaker of the Serbian Parliament also met separately with the head of government. Saad Eddine El Otmani and the presidents of the two chambers of the Moroccan Parliament on ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and coordination between the two countries during regional and international forums on issues of common interest.
They underlined that thanks to their geostrategic position, Morocco and Serbia can build three-dimensional economic partnerships oriented towards the development of the African continent.
