M’sia supports calls for investigation into Israeli occupation of Palestinian land
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia supports calls for the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry (COI) into Israel’s continued occupation of Palestinian land, saying such an investigation would ensure Palestinian accountability and humanitarian support.
Malaysia supported a Human Rights Council resolution with other members of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) at the 30th Special Session of the Human Rights Council of the man on May 27 (Thursday) in Geneva, Switzerland.
Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Kamarudin Jaffar delivered Malaysia’s statement during the session, which was held at the request of OIC members.
The session received overwhelming support from 69 states, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday (May 29).
“Malaysia stressed that the Occupying Power must extend its full cooperation to ensure that the IOC can effectively carry out its mandate. We believe that it is only with responsibility, justice and recourse that Palestinians can enjoy the human rights they rightly deserve, ”he said.
He added that Israel’s inhumane, colonial and apartheid policies must end for Palestinians to have a dignified future.
“Malaysia has always been a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause and remains committed to expressing support for the restoration of the inalienable rights of the Palestinians, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders,” with East Jerusalem as the capital, ”he said.
