ACTA takes part in a meeting in Pakistan to revise the UN Convention against Corruption

Qatar participated in meetings held in Pakistan to discuss the “United Nations Convention against Corruption”, represented by the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority (ACTA), via video conference, QNA reported.
The review process will achieve several objectives, including reinforcing the objectives of the United Nations Convention against Corruption and providing the Conference of States Parties with information on the measures they have taken to implement the Convention and on the difficulties they encounter in implementing these measures.
The process also assists States Parties to identify and substantiate special technical assistance needs, expediting the provision of technical assistance, encouraging and facilitating international cooperation to prevent and combat corruption, including the recovery of assets, in addition to providing the Meeting of States Parties with information on aspects of States’ success in implementing and using the Convention, the good practices they pursue, as well as the challenges they meet.
Government experts from Qatar, Kenya and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime provided feedback during the review meetings held in Pakistan. The observations were discussed during a series of intensive meetings held between the parties. Qatar was one of the first countries in the world to host the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, as part of its efforts to foster international cooperation in preventing and combating corruption .
Doha hosted the third session of the conference in 2009 and during this session the review mechanism of the United Nations Convention against Corruption was adopted, which continues to play the most important role in strengthening the implementation of the Convention and the exchange of relevant international experiences.
