8 new envoys present their credentials and pledge to promote trade and investment

Entebbe | RedPepper Digital – Eight newly accredited envoys to Uganda from Sweden, Nigeria, Ireland, Hungary, Angola, Australia, Oman and Indonesia presented their credentials to President Yoweri Museveni in separate ceremonies that took place at the State House in Entebbe on Friday.
The new Swedish Ambassador to Uganda HE Mrs. Carina Maria Hakansson flanked by her husband Mr. Carlos Caula was the first to present her credentials to President Museveni.

She praised the historic and friendly relations existing between Sweden and Uganda.
A career diplomat who has served her country in many countries in the Great Lakes region. Amb. Hakansson commended Uganda for being a generous host for many refugees in Africa.
She is committed to further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries, Sweden and Uganda.
President Museveni warmly welcomed the new Swedish Ambassador to Uganda
Nigeria’s new Ambassador to Uganda HE Zanna Umaru Bukar-Kolo also presented his credentials to President Yoweri Museveni.
Amb. Umaru Bukar-Kolo who was accompanied by his wife Ms. Falmata Yusufari Bukar-Kolo wished the President a Happy Birthday and briefed the President on the security situation in Nigeria which he said marked progress in the fight against terrorists in his country.
President Museveni welcomed the new Ambassador to Uganda and pledged to meet him soon.
Ireland’s new Ambassador to Uganda HE Kevin Colgan said he was delighted to be back in Uganda after 20 years. Amb. Colgan who was accompanied by his wife Catherine Colgan congratulated President Museveni for the development that has taken place in Uganda, especially around Muyenga Hill, Kabalagala and Tank Hill where his family was staying and noted that the area had changed a lot. .
Muyenga, Kabalagala and Tank Hill, where we were 20 years ago, have now totally changed, he said.
President Museveni welcomed the Irish envoy to Uganda and informed him that it was government policy to allow Asians to repossess their property that encouraged Ugandans to build their own homes.
“Most of these houses are Ugandan owned and the factories are mostly owned by foreign investors,” said the president.
The new Hungarian Ambassador to Uganda HE Zsolt Meszaros presented his credentials to President Museveni and noted that Uganda and Hungary have had dynamic relations.
The envoy who was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Hungary in Uganda Mr. Gordon Wavamuno pledged to further strengthen economic and social cooperation between the two countries.
Uganda is one of our main development partners and we are happy to extend our support to the education sector. 20 students have just benefited from the scholarships that Hungary has offered to Uganda, he said.
New Angolan Ambassador to Uganda HE Syanga Kivuila Samuel Abilio based in Nairobi extended warm greetings from its President Manuel Lourenco to President Museveni and the people of Uganda.
New Australian envoy to Uganda HE Luke Joseph Williams based in Nairobi appreciated Uganda’s contribution to stabilizing peace in the region and in Africa and also reported that Australia was doing very well in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic.
President Museveni welcomed the new envoy who was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Australia in Uganda, Mr. Patrick Bitature. He told the envoy that Uganda has a unique climate and also informed him that the country is taking firm action in the fight against COVID-19.
Oman’s new envoy, HE Saleh Sulaiman Ahmed Al-Harti, conveyed greetings from the Omani leadership to President Museveni.
The ambassador whose family has very strong roots in Uganda since his wife is from Ivukula in the Iganga district was extremely delighted to be in the country.
Ambassador Al-Harti was accompanied by the Honorary Consul of Oman in Uganda, Mr. Ingah Atamba Kutesa. He is committed to strengthening economic and social relations between Oman and Uganda.
The new Indonesian Ambassador to Uganda, HE Dr. Mohamad Hery Saripudin, also based in Nairobi, conveyed warm congratulations from Indonesian President HE Joko Widodo to President Yoweri Museveni on his victory in the recent elections.
The envoy also pledged to promote economic and social cooperation between the 2 countries, Indonesia and Uganda.
He revealed that Indonesia has already offered 15 scholarships to young Ugandan students to study in his country and 18 of them are pursuing masters studies.
He further revealed that trade and investment facilitated by the late Hon. Kirunda Kivejinja will be continued, in particular the feasibility study carried out on the relaunch of the railway line between Kampala and Kasese.
President Museveni welcomed the new Indonesian envoy to Uganda, revealing that Uganda will host the 2022 Non-Aligned Movement Conference next year, which was dear to the late Hon. Kirunda Kivejinja.
President Yoweri Museveni welcomed all new envoys to Uganda and promised to meet them once the government achieves its goal of vaccinating 21 million Ugandans against the COVID-19 pandemic.
